Let's talk pictures!

Ahh, isn't the weather beautiful?! It's the perfect time to break out those bright, fun colors for family pictures.  For many, it may be a stressful event.....choosing the perfect coordinated outfits for your family. I would love to make that a less stressful event for people.  Here are a few tips and ideas to help you put your look together.

1. Coordinate your family's style.  Steer clear of having everyone in the same colored shirts or dressed too matchy-matchy.  You want to add variety as you coordinate your look.  "Casually put together" is the look you should go for.

2.  Make sure you feel good in what you are wearing.  Try everything on before the day of the pictures (as well as, before the night before).  You want to have time to make changes if something doesn't feel good or look right.  If you are uncomfortable, it will show in your pictures.

3. Enjoy the fun colors that are "in" right now and that are just perfect for Springtime.  You don't want everyone in the photo to go bold, but placing in pops of color make for a great picture.  Below are some ideas for the kiddos from JCrew.com.  These are great looks to build on and carry through your pictures.

4. Accessorizing with fun jewelry or adding a prop can be a great way to add personality to your pictures.  Some photographers have their own props to bring into the pictures, so don't be afraid to ask.  A cute pose or memorable sign can add a personal touch as well.

A few more quick DOs and DON'Ts for your photo session:

DON'T get a haircut the day before your pictures.  A fresh haircut sometimes needs a few days to settle.

DO stick with only 2 coordinated outfits for your family at most.  It is fun to do an outfit change resulting in 2 different looks for your pictures.  You don't want to waste your session time by having too many outfit changes.

DON'T forget to pack a few snacks (non-messy, non-cheesy, non-greasy....you get the point) in case you or someone in your family needs a pick me up or a little bribery.  (Hey...I totally understand.  I have a 3 year old who is precious as can be and full of beautiful smiles, until there is a camera in front of her! Haha!)

DO let your photographer know your color scheme/coordinated look idea.  They can often suggest ideas of what might look best in the location they are photographing.

DO have fun!  Relax and enjoy each other.  Your photographer is snapping away even when you are not paying attention.  Some of the best shots and sweet memories are captured that way.
